The Elms – A Classic Boozer

As promised, the second of Burton’s big hitters although, strictly speaking this boozer is in Stapenhill.

227 – The Elms DE15 9AE is on the Stapenhill Road on the outskirts of Burton.  If you think Digbeth as a separate entity to Birmingham then you’ve got some idea of the proximity of Stapenhill to Burton.

 I can’t think of another pub in the Midlands with an outside as iconic as this and it would be a huge disappointment if it wasn’t a traditional boozer.

Fear not, as it is a cracker with a small bar and snug either side of it whilst there is some food available in the lounge at the back this is, to all intents and purposes, a cracking locals pub that shows live sport.

My pal and I started our Wednesday walk here that also encompassed the Dog and The Barley Mow and a half of Bass here was the drink of the night.

The snug and bar was nicely full and there are always bar blockers at The Elms but happy to let you see what’s on offer.  There were, unusually two groups of people both with laptops who appeared to be undertaking some kind of business chat but the Elms appeals to all and sundry and the beauty of this place is that there is no stereotypical punter.

Bench seating, cask ale, beermats, multi roomed and an entrance that stands out in a town full of iconic boozers.

Not a lot more to add other than it was a good atmosphere and if anyone reading this has never been to The Elms then they are missing out on a real treat.

I’m not sure this post does it justice but undoubtedly one of the best pubs I’ve been into this year and it looks likely to carry on in the same vein for many years to come.
