Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up as a blogger and come clean. An afternoon revisiting 201 – Furnace Inn DE1 3BX in central Derby meant memories of any further boozers are a little hazy!
I’ve waxed lyrical about the Furnace before and it is a belting place and although it was pretty quiet again on a Wednesday afternoon when I went for a game of darts with my drinking buddy and West Bromwich Albion fan.
Although it was a step up in form from us not to both finish on x1, I don’t think we’ll be troubling the Tuesday Pub and Club Winter Darts League just yet…
Some of this craft malarkey is lethal and Guillotine was aptly named! Definitely worth a visit again though and, if they haven’t already, I am sure members of the PUB (Pub Union of Bloggers) will have this on their bucket list.
So, suitably warmed up as I headed towards the bus station, I thought it was worth looking in a boozer that is tucked away at the back of St Peter’s Church…
(...it’s not here but couldn’t resist this Derby picture for a pub by a church)
308 – Ryan’s DE1 1SN was, apparently, two boozers known as The Green Man and The Eagle so they must have been forerunners of the Micropub movement, as this place isn’t massive.
The Church is often a hive of activity for preachers on the main street in front of it and is certainly in the liveliest part of the city.
By all accounts there is live music in here from Wednesday to Saturday, but it was incredibly quiet at around 5.30 on a Wednesday evening.
In fact, I was the only punter and that is never good news for a city centre boozer at that time of day.
What can I tell you about the place? After an afternoon in The Furnace not a lot other than it situated next to a picturesque building,
it’s clean and tidy inside, set on two floors, had bench seating and beermats.
Beyond that, it’s another Midlands boozer notched off and as I can’t imagine it troubling the GBG any time soon it may be on the Taylor ‘to do’ list rather than his highlighted pink.
“meant memories of any further boozers are a little hazy!”
LOL! Nowt wrong with that (once in a while). 🙂
“I am sure members of the PUB (Pub Union of Bloggers) will have this on their bucket list.”
My bucket list is so long (with respect to pubs) I doubt I’ll ever die!

(guffaw)
“In fact, I was the only punter and that is never good news for a city centre boozer at that time of day.”
Ouch. Indeed. 😦
“it may be on the Taylor ‘to do’ list rather than his highlighted pink.”
Don’t forget Si’s green! 🙂

I think Duncan keeps track of it all in his head. (LOL)

I hope that’s a pint of cider and not something straight out of Banks’ beer factory.

BPPF?
I’ve googled it…is it one of these…?
Bodo People’s Progressive Front
Baltic Peat producers Forum
Broke People Play Festival
Not sure I’ll be debuting at any of those…
Our do you mean the Beer and Pubs Forum?
If so I’m on the forum – but haven’t posted much yet. Definitely looking forward to joining one of the Proper Days Out though….
Yours…
Retired (nearly), old and confused… 😉
