Roll Up, Roll Up Get Your Free Cask Beer Here

The spirit of goodwill and proper pubbery is alive and kicking in the Amber Valley.

Turnditch is one of those places that only real pub tickers are aware of as whilst it is off the Ashbourne Road and on the main drag back into Derby, it is a case of blink and you’ve missed it.

Mind you, the stunning views of the Ecclesbourne Valley are top notch and it also contains a pub that is giving out free cask ale!

Yes, that’s right, without doubt the cheapest pint I’ve had post lockdown was on offer at 615 – The Tiger DE56 2LH as it came to the sum total of zero pence.

Martin might well be larging it in Sheffield as his sub £2.50 Craft Union pints of cask but The Tiger have taken it to new levels.

One of my ankle biters was playing football in Buxton and, being the athlete I am, I thought it was imperative to teach her about the importance of refuelling.

So, a table was booked at the Tiger as it’s about halfway home and I can report it was absolutely rocking at just after 1pm on a Saturday afternoon.

There was a beer garden to the left that was rammed and two marquees, which we were guided too but asked to sit in the car park, as it was too hot.

When I say the car park, it isn’t your bog standard car park as the views are somewhat spectacular so we were more than happy to sit there and await fish and chips/mushy peas for the athlete and lasagne for the ankle biter.

I asked for a pint of Wainwright.. but when the really friendly and helpful barmaid arrived, who confirmed it was manic, then she said she only had Pedigree (Marston’s)

“We are running low till next week so this is all I’ve got – I won’t charge you is that ok?”

IS THAT OK!  Of course it is as; a pint of Amber Nectar for absolutely diddly squat!

So, in baking hot sun with a very decent pint of Pedi watching pub life return to some kind of normality with terrific views.

Great pub conversations at nearby tables and in the short stint in the marquee – not covid related – mean people are starting to fill their boots in the sun.

Pubs are under pressure but in a village of 301 potential punters and no shops, they are proving just how important they are.

Blimey! Did you know that ahead of time?

Partly due to the weather I’ll bet.
(and maybe the free cask) 🙂

“but asked to sit in the car park, as it was too hot.”

    Definitely good weather!

Ah. When you said ‘refuelling’ I initially thought you meant the liquid kind. 😉

    Oh noes!

    You lucky bugger!

“a pint of Amber Nectar for absolutely diddly squat! ”

So the free cask wasn’t for everyone! Sneaky! 🙂

  2. Greetings Beermat sir, good to have you back after the lockdown hiatus. I was all set to dart over to deepest Derbyshire to claim my free pint after reading this, but I suspect I’d pick an ale that hasn’t run out and thus be expected to pay for the privilege. You’re not going to defect to a European Super League of pub bloggers at any point are you? Cheers, Paul

    1. Hi WME,
Great to hear from you and I believe there is in fact a premium price on Bathams and Banks’s in Derbyshire!!!
I can reveal I have been in high level negotiations with the Chief Executives of Coalville, Whitwick, Ibstock, Hugglescote, Swannington and three other unnamed suburbs to form an LE67 Super Blogging League.
In Bev are going to be the backers and provide all bloggers 400 pints of Bass per year as an incentive.
I’m sorry as I think it will lead to the break up of the blogging world as we know it but I’m a complete mercenary!!!
      Cheers
